Alexander Bruce Paul died peacefully on Tuesday, July 21, 2020. Alex, son of Ronald Paul and Isabelle (Dewar) was born in Fort Frances, Ontario on June 6, 1942. He is at rest after a lifetime devoted to serving and helping others. Alex will forever be remembered for his 25 years of service as a high school biology teacher at DRCSS, and coach of the Dauphin Clippers football team where he successfully led his team to the Provincial title. Alex was a lover of all sports, cars, and was an avid fisherman. He was an exceptional finished carpenter that designed and created kitchen cabinets for many people in Dauphin, and the surrounding area. Alex was a Master Mason and past Master of Vermillion Lodge No. 68 AF and AM. Alex will also be remembered for his work as the former Mayor of Dauphin where he served his community for eight years and was instrumental in opening Credit Union Place in 2006, and for his work as the owner and operator of Thunders Restaurant and Saloon.
Alex graduated from DCTI and attended Guelph Veterinary College for one year before leaving school to work for Hydro. He then decided to return to university where he completed a bachelor’s degree, and a master’s degree in biology at Northern Arizona University. Alex then moved to Eaglesham, Alberta to teach biology for two years. He later returned home to Dauphin to reside in his grandparents homestead that was built in the early 1900’s. It was his dream to transform the house into a modern-day masterpiece that his family could call home and after many long hours of work he managed to complete the restoration.
He leaves behind his best friend and wife Kim, his children Cindy Cecillon (Paul) and husband David, as well as their two children Jonathon, and Noah as well as Becky Paul and partner Michael Van Mol, and their children Emily, Nolan, Bella, and Nya.
Alex is also survived by his sister Catherine Godard of France, his nephew Christian Godard of Luxembourg, his niece Alexandra Godard of Phoenix, and Isabelle Dumont of Seattle and his grand nieces, Adrien, and Emily Dumont.
We will always remember Alex for his strength, fortitude, and his ability to overcome life’s obstacles. He always found light in every situation and nothing ever dampened his spirits or outlook on life. He will be missed.
Cremation has taken place and a private service will be held at a later date.
