Darren Killen

Darren Andrew Killen, affectionately known as “Killer,” passed away on June 16, 2025, in Dauphin, Manitoba, after a very brief but courageous battle with cancer. He was 54 years old.

Darren was born on October 31, 1970, in Thompson, Manitoba. He was known for his huge heart, his strong work ethic, and his incredible sense of humor.

Darren is lovingly survived by his best friend and spouse, Trish Vessey; his cherished daughter, Jessie Killen; and his beloved dog, Remi. He was a loyal and devoted family man and friend, always ready to lend a hand with projects of any size.

A true outdoorsman, Darren enjoyed baseball, hunting, fishing, and camping, kayaking. He had a gift for coaching, mentoring and was passionate about going to the gym, playing cards and cribbage, and sharing laughter with those around him. His presence brought people together, and his laugh could light up a room.

One of Darren’s greatest passions was the fire department, which became his second family. He took immense pride in serving his community and was deeply respected by his peers for his commitment, leadership, and compassion. If Darren wasn’t at work, the gym, or the firehall, he was spending meaningful time with his family and friends.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the doctors and nurses at Dauphin Hospital for their compassionate care and support. Your kindness brought immense comfort to Darren and his loved ones during an incredibly difficult time. Special thanks to Dr. Riley Smith for her tireless efforts, dedication, and for leaving no stone unturned in seeking answers and care for Darren’s                 condition.

We are also deeply thankful for the family and friends who stood by Darren in his final days. Your love, strength, and unwavering support meant the world to him and continue to comfort those he left behind.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Darren’s memory may be made to the Dauphin Fire Department.

Darren will be deeply missed and forever remembered for his generosity, humor, and big heavy heart of gold.

A come and go Celebration of Darren's Life will be held on Saturday, June 21, 2025, from 11:00 A.M until 1:00 P.M. at the Watson Art Centre, with a Dauphin Fire Department Bell Service and Family Tribute beginning at 11:00 A.M.
