In 1975 he moved to Dauphin and began his own business and later moved to Sifton where he lived until his passing.

Don and Lorraine (Boris) were married in 1973 and began their family of two children Lee Anne and Dean. Don had many talents. He loved to do woodworking. Don liked fast cars and motorcycles. He loved all types of music and was very talented at playing the drums, spoons, and whatever else he could find to keep the beat. The Beatles were his favorite. Don loved being on the lake, pipe in mouth and fishing rod in hand but his true passion was flying. He earned his wings and pilot license. Don was an excellent pilot; you could often hear him on Sunday mornings buzzing over your house. Don also belonged to the Sifton Community Center for over twenty-five years and the Sifton Fire Department for forty-five years, receiving several awards. Don loved visiting his grandchildren, and watching their concerts, hockey, and volleyball games.
