Donald Angus Obituary

Donald George Angus

July 4, 1959 – March 17, 2022

It is with heavy hearts and great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, Donald George Angus (The Bull), 62, on Thursday, March 17, 2022.

Don was born in Dauphin, on July 4th, 1959 to Blanche (Archer) and William (Bill) Angus, younger brother to Karen, Brent and twin, Debbie. He was raised on the family farm, reluctantly picking rocks and doing chores. Many after school hours and weekends were spent at Grandma’s in town, where he would play hockey on the outdoor rink and hang out with friends. Don liked to brag to his kids about the time he raised prize pigs in 4H.

Don met the love of his life during the September long weekend, 1994. Don and Reneta were married on May 12, 1995, in Newfoundland. Friends and family from Manitoba and Alberta who came to celebrate the wedding were greeted by the sight of pack ice in the Bay, which hadn’t happened in many years.

Don hired on with CNR on his 18th birthday, spending 37 years with the company. 17 years of his career were spent in Jasper. Don was a proud railroader and loved his profession. Upon retiring in July 2014, he hired on with VIA Rail and then HBR in Gillam until the birth of his first grandchild brought him back home.

While in Jasper, Don made many life-long friends, Memories and legendary stories arose from parties at the Stone House and the Atha-B. Don coached hockey, played rec league hockey with the Stray Cats and discovered his love of golf.

After the birth of two sons, Don moved his family back home to Dauphin. Here, his family grew by two more. Many weekends and holidays were spent gathered at the farm, around the fire, both reminiscing and making new memories. Gradually, supervising band trips, running the time clock and chauffeuring kids to multiple activities replaced golf.

Don was happy to lend a hand with many of the children’s activities. Watching his children grow and develop their passions was a source of great pride. In between work and children’s activities, Don could be found biking, even in winter. While working up north, Don discovered snowshoeing, where not even an icicle encrusted beard would slow him down.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 26 years, Reneta, children Ben (Jenna), Joey, McKenna (Cole), Matthew (Jillian) and sweet granddaughter, Ella Mae. He is greatly missed by sisters Karen (Fred) and Debbie (Dean), nephews Tyson and Reece, nieces Blair and Bobbie and their families.

Don is predeceased by parents, Blanche and Bill Angus, brother Brent and great-nephew Kaiden.

A celebration of life was held on Saturday, March 26, 2022 at Pathways Funeral Services, followed by a luncheon at Corrina’s restaurant. The service was officiated by Barry Nadolny. Jasper friends will gather April 1st during happy hour at the De’d Dog, Astoria Hotel, to raise a toast and remember The Bull.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Manitoba Brain Injury Association, or a charity of one’s choice.

Thank you to the many family, friends and neighbours who brought food, flowers and comfort to our home. Don was a kind and gentle man and his legacy will live on in the hearts of his family and friends.
