Edward Michaluk

Edward (Ed) Lewis Michaluk, 82, of Grandview, Manitoba passed away peacefully with family by his side at the Dauphin Regional Health Centre on Thursday, August 12, 2021. Edward was born April 9, 1939 at home in Keld, Mb to Adam and Nellie (Goshulak) Michaluk. At a young age, Edward moved to Grandview with his family where he attended Valley River and Duck Mountain Schools.

Edward went away to work for the winters as a young man to Thompson, Manitoba where he worked underground in the Inco mines, Sudbury, Ontario where he worked in a steel plant and in different areas in the bush and sawmills. He would come back to the family farm every spring and eventually took it over in 1968. It was a mixed farming operation which included grain, a few cattle, lots of sows and pigs, chickens, turkeys and ducks. When Edward downsized his operation, he worked at various places but found the most fitting place to end his working days at Manchur Farms. They treated him like family and he was able to operate the machinery he had always dreamed of owning.  Edward remained on the farm until 2020 when he decided it was time to move to town due to failing health. Edward faced many challenges in his lifetime and did so always with a smile on his face. His amazing homecare team became his new family as did the other residents of Valley Villa. He loved the Saturday morning coffees and visits especially if they included cake, pie or biscuits. Meals on Wheels was a highlight.  Edward loved to trap and hunt, fish, cut wood, push snow, garden, pick berries and mushrooms, cook and can, read and journal, and visit.

Edward is survived by his sisters Audrey Symbalisty and Delores Balak (Leonard), and sister-in-law Doris, special niece Tara (Balak) Harrigan (Codi, Ryleigh & Rowyn), special nephew Ryan Balak (Amanda, Paizlei & RJ), several other nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family.

Edward was predeceased by both parents Adam and Nellie in 1977, brother Frank in 1999, brother Stanley in 2011, brother Joseph in 2013, brother-in-law Andrew Symbalisty in 2003.

Edward’s family would like to thank all of his caregivers but especially his homecare team, Dauphin ICU staff, and the EMS for providing Edward with such outstanding care.

Cremation has taken place and a public graveside service was held for Edward on Saturday, August 28th at 11:00 am from the Grandview Memorial Gardens & District Cemetery with Pastor Scott Allen officiating, a funeral luncheon was held at the Grandview Kinsmen Community Centre following the service. Should friends so desire, donations in Edward’s memory may be made to the St. Boniface Hospital Foundation, Cancer Care Manitoba, or to the Grandview & District Community Foundation.
