Ella Mitchell

Ella Mitchell of Grandview, Manitoba, passed away on Thursday, June 5th, 2025, at the age of 97 years.

Ella was born in Dauphin, Manitoba on October 5, 1927, to Mary Anne Tobin (nee Chicoski) and James Benedict Tobin.

She was the eldest sister to Josephine, Mosie and Ben.  Her family farmed 22 miles Southwest of Grandview, Manitoba on the beautiful Russell Trail.

Ella attended school in Hollybourne Country School, St. Mary's School in Winnipeg, Grandview Highschool in Grandview and Roblin Highschool in Roblin, Manitoba.

in 1948 she went to Normal School and got her teacher's certificate.  She taught in a few country schools before going to the Grandview Elementary School.  In 1950 she started her teaching career in the Ottawa School in the R.M. of Grandview.  In 1981 she graduated from Brandon University with a Bachelor of General Studies Degree.  Ella retired from teaching in 1988.

On July 25, 1951, Ella married Raymond Laverne Mitchell, they continued to farm in the Ottawa district in the R.M. of Grandview.  They were blessed with five children, Brenda, Barbara, Laurie, Laraine and Bradley.

Mom worked hard on the farm raising children, gardening and feeding harvesting crews.  She was also a Teacher, a United Church Member, on the personal care home board, a 60-year member of the Red Cross Society, a life member of the Grandview Curling Club, a Shriner's wife, a legion member and member of the Manitoba's Teachers Society.

In 2003 Ella and Laverne moved to Grandview, Manitoba and lived out the rest of their life in a community that they loved.

Ella enjoyed her 6 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.

Ella was predeceased by her husband Laverne in 2005, her daughter Brenda in 2021, her brothers Mosie in 2007 and Ben in 2024.

Ella passed away peacefully on June 5, 2025, at the Grandview District Hospital.  She was 97 years of age.

A Funeral Service was held on Wednesday, July 2, at 2:00 P.M. from the Grandview United Church in Grandview, Manitoba.  Reverend Steve Wilson officiated.

Interment followed in the Grandview Memorial Gardens.
