Florence Komarniski

Florence Jean Komarniski, 86, passed peacefully on February 18, 2023 with her daughter by her side at St. Paul’s Care Home in Dauphin, Manitoba.  Florence will be lovingly remembered as mom to her children Richard (Dell) Komarniski and Elly (Harry) Sotas, as Baba to Ashleigh (Josh), Daniel (Nicola), Julia (Anthony) and Carly (Blake), and as Babka to Elijah, Vincent, Aria, Peter and Alice.  Florence was a special aunt to several nieces and nephews and also leaves to mourn friends who cared for her for many years.

Born on August 26, 1936 to Ann and William Wasylyshen in Dauphin, Florence was the youngest of the family and attended school in Dauphin before moving to Saskatoon for work as a young woman. She met and married Albert Komarniski in 1955 and they farmed at Garland before moving to Winnipeg in 1972 to begin a real estate business.  In 1987, Florence became the broker for Golden West Real Estate in Dauphin and loved selling farms as much as she loved the people.  For 17 years, Florence served as Dauphin’s Mrs. Claus in the annual Christmas parade where she lovingly shared her smile and kindness with children.   

Florence enjoyed curling, dancing, gardening and canning.  Without fail, she knew the secret spots when it came to picking cranberry and smorzh.  Florence loved an adventure, travelling to see family and friends across Canada and the world.  Her favorite parts of farming were swathing grain with a New Holland swather that had levers not a steering wheel, and hauling grain to the elevator, always negotiating for a better grade with the elevator agent!

Florence was predeceased by her husband Albert, her daughter Cindy and also her parents, siblings Steve, Elsie, Pauline, Peter, Stanley and Ernie.

In keeping with Florence’s wishes, cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Life was held on Friday, February 24th at the New Life Centre Church.  Bro. Terance Lacquette officiated. Inurnment followed in the Dauphin Riverside Cemetery.  Her family extends a huge thank you to the caring, loving staff at Rossburn Personal Care Home and St. Paul’s Care Home.
