Gerald Mayuk Obituary

In Loving Memory of Gerald Paul Mayuk

It is with great sadness that the family of Gerald Paul Mayuk announce his passing on Friday, December 13th, 2024, at the Dauphin Regional Hospital at the age of 66 years.

Gerald was born in Dauphin, Manitoba, on May 15th, 1958, to the late Paul and Jean Mayuk of Pine River, Manitoba. He was raised on the family farm in Pine River and attended school in both Pine River and Ethelbert. He later pursued a career in heavy equipment operation in The Pas, Manitoba.

Gerald’s journey in life led him to meet his future wife, Iris Kostiuk, at a young age in Pine River. They were married in July of 1979 and built a life together in Dauphin, where they welcomed their firstborn son, Ryan, followed by their daughter, Amber, and son, Dustin. Together, they ran their own cleaning company for many years.

In 2005, Gerald’s health took a sudden turn, prompting a move to Edmonton, AB, where he received a liver transplant. After his recovery, they returned to Dauphin, a place he always considered home.

Gerald is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Iris, who stood by his side through both the good times and the challenging ones. He is also survived by his children: son Ryan (Karyn), daughter Amber (Jason), and son Dustin (Karla), along with his 6 grandchildren: Emma, Cael, Carter, Gertrude, Memphis, and Huxli.

He is also survived by his siblings: brother Richard (Catherine) of Calgary, AB; sister Cindy Johnston (Blair) of Dauphin, MB; and sister Kim Puchailo (Rick) of Flin Flon, MB, along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Gerald was predeceased by his parents Paul (2013) and Jean (2006) Mayuk of Pine River, and his brother Dennis Mayuk (2009).

Gerald is now at peace, free from the struggles that defined much of his life, and the family takes comfort knowing that he is no longer in pain. A celebration of his life will be held at a later date.

The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude for the support they have received during this time. A special thank you goes to Dr. Kish for the many years of care provided to our Dad and Husband, as well as to the palliative nursing staff for their continuous, compassionate care over the past three months. We are especially grateful to Cindy for the countless hours you spent by his side, ensuring he was never alone when we couldn’t be there. We also wish to thank everyone who has been a part of Gerald's life. Your kindness and support have meant the world to us.

Should friends so desire, donations in Gerald's memory may be made to Cancer Care Manitoba or to the Canadian Transplant Society.
