Gerald (Gerry) William Stary of Dauphin, Manitoba, passed away at the Dauphin Regional Health Centre on Saturday, November 16, 2024, at the age of 78 years, after a short battle with cancer.
Gerry was born on July 31st, 1946, in Melfort, Saskatchewan to Luba and Karl Stary. He grew up on his family farm in Maryville, Saskatchewan. He moved away from home to attend the University of Manitoba’s faculty of engineering. He graduated in 1972, with a degree in civil engineering. He started working as an engineer in Portage la Prairie for a few years before moving to Dauphin where he started his lifelong career working for Manitoba highways, receiving the Meritorious Service Award for over 27 years of service.
His hobbies included, hunting, fishing, woodworking, bowling, and repairing almost anything. He spent many years travelling with his wife Jocelyne. They had many wonderful adventures like kayaking with belugas in Churchill, salmon fishing in Alaska, walking the beaches of Hawaii and Jamaica, shopping in Mexico, as well as elaborate road trips throughout Canada and the United States with their RV trailer visiting family and friends along the way. Yuma Arizona and Weslaco Texas is where they spent several winters.
He enjoyed cooking on his grill, making everything from sausages to briskets including his own BBQ sauce. He lived on an acreage just outside the North gates of Riding Mountain National Park where he spent his time taking care of his beautiful yard that included fruiting trees, grape vines and gardens. He also loved to work on various projects in his shop from woodworking to small engine repair.
He is survived by his wife Jocelyne Granger-Stary and his four children and nine grandchildren. Daughter Joӫlle (grandchildren: Jacob and Adrien), and three sons: Rossel and wife Regan (grandchildren: Lyric, Scotia, Hugo, Elovie), Danel and wife Mandi (grandchildren: Remi and Esmee), and Michel and wife Simone (grandchild Lucien).
He is predeceased by his father Karl (1978), his brother Eugene (1986), and his mother Luba (1998).
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, November 26, 2024, at 2:00 P.M. from Pathways Funeral Services with the Very Reverend Father Oleg Bodnarski officiating.
The family would like to genuinely thank the staff at the Dauphin Regional Health Centre for their support, care and compassion during the final stages of his battle with cancer.
