James Barrie Park (Jim) of Dauphin, Manitoba passed away on Wednesday, October 11, 2023 at the Dauphin Personal Care Home. He was born 92 years ago on July 30, 1931 in Carman Manitoba, the second youngest son, to Daisy & Herbert Park. He wasn’t interested in ‘farming’ as his other male siblings were, and decided to look towards a different career for himself in the employ of the Manitoba Telephone System. A decision he never regretted, enjoying until his early retirement at age 60 in 1991.
Jim met his ‘Life Partner’, Marilyn (Penson) in 1953 when the MTS crew were updating the Selkirk area’s equipment and laying cable throughout the town and surrounding area. We married in 1956.
Our 3 children were born in Winnipeg and Selkirk. A busy fun time, learning to be a family, etc. Precious and important to us. Jim was always involved in various sports from a young age and so that continued in our family life as well. The event in 2017 when he had his life changing fall he was still busy golfing, but the other sports, winter and summer, he had enjoyed participating in became those he watched on tv. Friend Lyle and Jim have watched many football games, baseball, golf tournaments on tv in Jim’s room these past years.
He was a member of the Dauphin Lion’s Club for many years, thanks to Rolly Hollyoake & Steve Heschuk inviting him to join, and we have always been an active members of St. Paul’s Anglican Church over the past 59 years.
He leaves to mourn his death and cherish his life wife Marilyn, daughter Karen (Alberta), Brent and wife Jennifer (BC); many nieces, nephews, in both of our family’s, extended families, our forever friends. Jim was predeceased by daughter Janice, his parents Daisy & Herb, siblings Earl (Betty) Beulah Patricia, Maxwell(Myrtle), Lloyd (Isabelle) Allen, Douglas (Iris) Leonard, nephews Joey, Timmy, Marilyn’s brother Gerald Penson and parents, Dorothy and Douglas Penson.
Our Family would like to acknowledge and Give Most Sincere Thanks to some very SPECIAL PEOPLE who have walked with Jim and I and our children these past several years and continue to do so. Gail Yurkiw, Sandi Bass, Jo Ann Stykalo, LeeAnne Gibbs. Frances and Lyle Stewart/McNichol, Adrienne and Gerry Archambault.
To the Nurses, Health Care Aides, the ’Hands On’ Care givers of our Family members. The Cleaning Staff, The Administrative Staff, The Doctors. EVERYONE! You are an Amazing and Caring People. Thank You.
