Jeannette Morrisseau Obituary

It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of our dear Mother/Sister/Aunt/Grandmother Jeannette Morrisseau of Dauphin, Manitoba on Monday, March 14, 2022, at the age of 68 years.

Jeannette was born on May 1, 1953, in Crane River, Manitoba. Jeannette is survived by her father Alva Morrisseau and siblings: Celina (Allan), Sharon (Ralph), Richard (Sessie), Arlene (Douglas), Carol (Tommy), Tony (Victoria), Lee, and stepbrother Everett (Crystal).

She was predeceased by her loving husband of 40 years whom she married on May 28, 1982. Glen Louis “Rabbit” Morrisseau; her mother, Maryanne Morrisseau; stepfather, Roy Sanderson; brother, Rheal Morrisseau; nephews Jonathan McLellan, Cody Morris; uncles, Pat Houle, Ernie Morrisseau, Fred Marshall, Alex La Pierre; aunties, Barbara Marshall, Bernice La Pierre, Jean Morrisseau; sisters-in-law, Bella Morrisseau, Beatrice Abraham, Florence Spence; grandparents, Ida, Romeo Morrisseau; grandfather, Henry Houle; stepmother, Joanne Contois; cousins, Conrad Beck, Cecil La Pierre, Debbie Shingoose, Desi Shingoose.

After completing her Bachelor’s degree of Education at Brandon University, Jeannette began teaching for the next 22 years, starting with elementary students at Donald Ahmo School.  A dedicated teacher and then Principal, Jeannette shared her passion for learning with students at Chief Clifford Lynxleg Anishinaabe School, Charles Sinclair School, and Burntwood Elementary School.  Among her students, whom she was dedicated to, she earned the affectionate nickname Jmama.

Throughout her career, she made many friends among her colleagues that she cared for dearly, always prepared to offer advice or a helping hand. Her friends (including special friends Beverly Morris, Mary Genaille, Rosie McKay, Rita Roulette, Andrew Spence, Lillian Queen, and Trevor Macdonald) will fondly remember Jeannette's vivacious spirit, endless kindness, and unwavering resolve.

With a smiling husband who made sure that she had her tea and toast every morning, Jeanette’s marriage with Glen was a happy one where they were joined at the hip.  She will be forever missed by their 4 children Curtis (Shirlene), Glenda, Kyle (Trinity), Chantelle, and her 4 stepchildren, Roy (Mackie), Sean (Cheryl), Marlene, and Darlene. Jeannette loved and adored all of her grandchildren (Jordyn, Connor, baby Glen Louis, Harper Mae) and step-grandchildren.

Also left to mourn are Jeannette’s uncles and aunts Mary (Topsy) Flett, Johnny (Muriel), Clifford (Janice), Orville, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.  As she noted on her Facebook page: “I have a big family whom I love with all my heart.”  She will be missed more than any words could express as we remember her as a strong matriarch of our family, a protective bear ready to jump in and defend if she was needed.

A Traditional Wake will be held on Friday, April 8th at 4:00pm from the Maurice Morrisseau Memorial Hall in Crane River, Manitoba.  A Funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 9th at 1:00pm from the Maurice Morrisseau Memorial Hall in Crane River, Manitoba
