Joyce Halvorson Obituary

Joyce Halvorson (Lipinski) was born July 27, 1927, to Felix & Mary Lipinski in Bartozwka, Poland.  In 1929 the family immigrated to Canada.  They spent over a year at Riley, Alberta and eventually settled at their homestead near Fosston, Saskatchewan.  Mom and her siblings all worked on the farm.  Mom and her brother and sisters all attended a country school and walked daily a two and a half mile trek.  Mom had to learn English, as the family only spoke Polish.

Joey met a young Norwegian fellow who lived a few miles from the family farm.  A courtship was sparked, my dad, Adolph Halvorson who courted mom in his Snow Plane.  Adolph and Joey were married a short time after on August 17, 1948.  They spent their honeymoon at a hotel in Greenwater Saskatchewan.  They made their home on the Halvorson farm, living with Adolph's father Hans Halvorson.  Mom worked alongside dad, milking cows, raising chickens, haying and also worked on the tractor in the fields.

In 1949, a daughter was born, Linda Faye, who was the only child.  They used to say, when they saw perfection, they better not have anymore - who knows if that was true LOL!

Mom was also a decorator of wedding cakes, and also loved to arrange flowers from her flower gardens.  Grass was mowed to perfection in different directions each time.  Mom and Dad loved a big garden and Dad made sure mom had the rows straight.

In the early 70's Mom worked at the Rose Valley Hospital in the housekeeping department retiring from the job in 1992, completing 19 years.  It has been known that dare anyone walk on those freshly washed or waxed floors, you would be told in no uncertain terms!

In 1985 Mom & Dad moved from the farm to Rose Valley, enjoying many years there.  In 2018 they sold their home and moved into Rose Valley Community Spirit Manor until dad's health was failing, so mom moved to Kelvindale Villa in Kelvington to be close to dad at the lodge.  Mom went every day to be with dad.  In 2020 dad passed, and in 2021 mom moved with her daughter Linda & husband Rick to Dauphin, Manitoba, to be close to grandson Mark (Kristen).  In 2023 mom became Great Grandma to little Hallie, the bond that was formed was a miracle.

Mom's health declined and in April 2024, mom was admitted to Grandview Personal Care Home and on September 16, 2024 mom went to heaven to be with dad., whom she missed dearly for 4 years.

With sadness we say goodbye to a wife, mother, sister, grandma, great grandma, auntie and a friend.  Joey will be missed by daughter Linda (Rick), grandchildren Tamara (Shane), Mark (Kristen) and great granddaughter Hallie.  Joey was predeceased by her loving husband Adolph, her parents Felix & Mary Lipinski, brother Edward (Marie), her sisters & their husbands, Eunice (Clarence) Berge, Helen (Jules) Langlois, Stella (Conrad) Volk, Susie (Eilif) Johnson.

A celebration of Joyce's life will be held at a later date in Rose Valley, Saskatchewan.

Should friends so desire, donations in Joyce's memory may be made to the Rose Valley Community Spirit Manor.
