Karen Marie Duncan nee Holowachuk aged 56, passed away peacefully with her daughter by her side on Saturday, April 17, 2021 at St. Paul’s Care Home in Dauphin, Manitoba.
She was the 4th child of Paul and Elizabeth Holowachuk, born in Ste. Rose du Lac on December 1, 1964.
Karen leaves to mourn her passing, daughter Cindy and partner Roger of Toronto. Her parents Paul and Elizabeth Holowachuk of Dauphin, sister Rosalie Pshebylo of Dauphin, brother Lester Holowachuk and wife Tina of Dauphin, sister Diane Holowachuk and husband Alex of Dauphin, and sister Jeanette Delaurier and husband Clem of Winnipeg. Also extended family members Peter Holowachuk and partner Tonya of Roseisle, Anna Whale and husband Tony of Brandon.
Karen also leaves to mourn four nieces, Dawn Fisher (Rob) of Dauphin, Jenna Holowachuk of Winnipeg, Danielle Delaurier of Winnipeg, and Jenalle Bourdin of Dauphin. She leaves behind two nephews Mathew Pshebylo (Susan) of Carberry, and Devon Bourdin of Winnipeg as well as four great nephews and one great niece. Karen was predeceased by her brother Arnold, brother-in-law Don, and numerous cousins, aunts, and uncles from previous years.
Karen was born into a hard-working farming family. She dutifully worked on the farm and attended Rorketon School until her calling was to move to Calgary. There, she worked as a nanny in 1982. She continued to work until her daughter Cindy was born in 1989. Once Cindy started school, Karen worked a variety of jobs in Claresholm, Alberta.
In 1999, they moved to Dauphin, and Karen continued to work until Parkinson’s disease slowly overtook her health.
In her last 2 years of life, Karen resided in the Winnipegosis Personal Care Home and in Dauphin at St. Paul’s Care Home.
At this time, Karen’s family would like to extend our sincerest, heartfelt thank you to the employees of the Winnipegosis Care home and especially the St. Paul’s Care Home staff. The words “thank you”, do not seem like enough for the kind and compassionate care you have given Karen. The Holowachuk family will forever be grateful to each and every one of you who were a part of her life every day.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks for donations in Karen’s name be made to the St. Paul’s Personal Care Home Activities Department, 703 Jackson Street Dauphin, MB R7N 2N2.
A private service will take place from the Pathways Funeral Services Tribute Room Monday, April 26th 2021 at 10:00 a.m. with the Very Reverend Father Oleg Bodnarski officiating.
Interment will take place in the Weiden Cemetery at a later date.
