Karen was born into a hard-working farming family.  She dutifully worked on the farm and attended Rorketon School until her calling was to move to Calgary.  There, she worked as a nanny in 1982.  She continued to work until her daughter Cindy was born in 1989.  Once Cindy started school, Karen worked a variety of jobs in Claresholm, Alberta.

In 1999, they moved to Dauphin, and Karen continued to work until Parkinson’s disease slowly overtook her health.

In her last 2 years of life, Karen resided in the Winnipegosis Personal Care Home and in Dauphin at St. Paul’s Care Home.

At this time, Karen’s family would like to extend our sincerest, heartfelt thank you to the employees of the Winnipegosis Care home and especially the St. Paul’s Care Home staff.  The words “thank you”, do not seem like enough for the kind and compassionate care you have given Karen.  The Holowachuk family will forever be grateful to each and every one of you who were a part of her life every day.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks for donations in Karen’s name be made to the St. Paul’s Personal Care Home Activities Department, 703 Jackson Street Dauphin, MB R7N 2N2.
