Larry Zurba Obituary

Larry Zurba of Fork River, Manitoba passed away on Monday, August 9th, 2021 at the age of 83 years.

A Funeral Liturgy will be held for Larry on Thursday, August 12th, 2021 at 10:00 A.M. from the Ukrainian Catholic Church of the Resurrection in Dauphin, Manitoba with the Very Reverend Father Oleg Bodnarski Officiating.  Due to the COVID-19 restrictions the Liturgy will be private to invitation only.

Leaving a legacy, Larry Lawrence Zurba, 83, Fork River, MB passed away Monday Aug 9, 2021 at his home of 58 years after a brave battle of Cancer with his family by his side.

Larry was born to Bill and Stella Zurba on December 4, 1937 in Dauphin,MB

He was the third child, attending Norton School, later the Dauphin Collegiate.

Predeceased by his parents and brothers’ Richard & Earl, Granddaughter Ashley Owen. He was also predeceased by many close friends and relatives.

Larry was married June 1, 1957 to Claudia Prestayko at the Cathedral of St. Vladimir & Olga Ukrainian Catholic Church, Winnipeg, MB

After their wedding, Larry & Claudia moved to Timmons, ON where Larry worked in the local goldmine for 4 years. This is where they started their family becoming proud parents to Valerie and Sharon. From there they moved to their present residence in the Fork River, MB area in 1962. They had 3 more children, Alden, Glenn and Adrienne. Larry’s lifetime career was dedicated and committed to mixed farming by breaking 2 quarters of land, growing crops and raising cattle for beef and dairy. He always made sure the whole family was involved in the entire operation.

Larry started to serve the RM of Mossey River as a councillor & reeve for a total of 28 years. While with the RM of Mossey River, he belonged to various organizations and committees. A designation and commitment that he took extremely serious and was very proud to serve his community.

To serve his community further, he was a long standing member of the Mossey River Council Knights of Columbus. He also belonged to the Manitoba Farmers Union.

He was always game for a fishing and/or hunting trip. He had a great love for animals and growing crops. In his later years, he could be found working the garden. Any invite to go on vacation with one of his children was always taken advantage of. Trips to Puerto Vallarta, MX, Hawaii, US, Cuba, many parts of United States and Canada.

Larry is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Claudia. Valerie (Oliver) Owen, Sharon (Al) Wiebe, Alden (Andrea) Zurba, Glenn (Barb) Zurba and Adrienne Zurba. Eleven grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren. One brother Bill (Ethel) Zurba. Many Nieces and nephews. Larry was extremely proud of both his immediate and extended family.

A Funeral Liturgy was held August 12, 2021 at 10am at the Ukrainian Catholic Church in Dauphin, MB. With interment at the Riverside Cemetery in Dauphin, MB.
