Leona Tkachyk Obituary

Leona (FooFie) Margaret Tkachyk passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 14, 2022, at the age of 66 years, in the Winnipegosis Personal Care Home.  Leona was born on June 6, 1956, in Winnipegosis, Manitoba to William and Mary Tkachyk.  She was the youngest of 5 children.  She went to school in Winnipegosis until grade 9.  She left school to help out at home.

She was a hard worker all through out her life and was never afraid to try something new.  If you told her she couldn’t do it, she would have to prove you wrong by doing it.  She had all types of jobs when she was younger.  From helping her brother Leonard on his ranch in Salt Point, working at Chersak’s and the Dock Stop, janitor at the elementary school, working at a hospital in B.C. when she moved out there to her older sister Verna’s for a couple years, but her passion was cooking.  She started her cooking career catering with Ann Shumyk then later had her own business doing catering.  Her cooking took her to many places.  She cooked at a lodge in Salt Point, Island Lake, Garden Hill, for CN in Saskatchewan just to name a few.  In 1989 she took a job cooking at a restaurant in Churchill.  There she would stay until her health got too bad and she came back home to be around her family.

Leona loved to be around people, it didn’t matter who you were she would always have somewhere for you to sleep and food in your belly.  She would talk to anyone; she was definitely not a shy person and if you met her, you definitely would not forget her.  She wasn’t afraid to ask anyone anything and would make friends with everyone she met and treat them like family.  Leona loved to travel, she has been all over this country, road trips through the States and hot vacations.

Leona is survived by her sister Rose Brown and brother Leonard.  Nephews and nieces; Wayne (Lesa), JoAnne (Gordie), Doug (Erin), Kirk (Brenda), Maxine (Edward), Amber (Dean) and Troy.  Her great nephews and nieces; Randy (Arley), Jonah (Kelly), April, Dylan, Aynsley, Keegan, Miller, Carson, Jaxson, Carmyn, Charlene, and Ted.  Great great nephews and nieces; Marshall, Remington, Shay, Riley, and Quinn.

She was predeceased by her parents William and Mary Tkachyk.  Her sisters Ann and Verna.  Brothers-in-Law Steve, Roy, and Harvey.  Sister-in-Law JoAnne and nephew Milton.

Leona was an extraordinary woman and will truly be missed by all her family and friends.
