Obituary

With deep sadness we announce the passing of our mother, Reta Hannah Jane Hrechka, peacefully and without pain at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, June 9, 2023, at the age of 91.

Reta was born in Dauphin to Francis (Frank) and Esther Rogers (Switzer) on November 28, 1931. She grew up on a farm in the Ashville area and went to Mineral Creek School.

Reta married Fred Hrechka on October 31, 1951. They settled on a farm in the Spruce Creek area where she lived for 46 years.

She was predeceased by her parents Francis and Esther; husband Fred Hrechka; brothers George, Ivan and Joe and his wife Jackie; sister Doris and brother-in-law Angus Karpenic; in-laws Mike and Mary Karpenic, Mike and Helen Hrechka, Bertha and Harry Hrechka, Bill and Steve Hrechka and granddaughter Adrienne Marie French.

She is survived by children Frank Hrechka (Kathy), Sharon French (kim), Rodney Hrechka; sister Mariena Karpenic; sisters-in-law Joyce Hrechka and Joan Rogers; grandchildren Michael (Anna) Hrechka, Kristoffer Hrechka, Kelcey (Julie) French, Kaylyn (Ryan) Fillion, Heather Arcand and Brett (Jennifer) and Jessica (Cole) Hrechka; great-grandchildren Kyla (Sam), Teagan, Logan and Kyra, Taylor, Campbell, Kolton, Jesse and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Reta moved from the farm to a house in Dauphin in 1997 with her four-legged companions Trixie and Bibs. Later, her companions were Pretty Baby and Callie.

In 2017, Reta move to St. Georges Place. She was very happy and enjoyed many activities such as cards, bingo, singing, exercise classes and friendships. Along with the many activities, she could be found volunteering to help others. She belonged to the United Church Women’s League, senior center, bowling, and the Sandringham Ladies’ Club.

A special thanks to the medical staff at the Dauphin emergency ward and the palliative care ward. A very big thank you to all who visited, sent FaceTime messages and phone messages.

As per mom’s request, funeral services will be held graveside at 1:30 p.m., Tuesday, July 11, 2023, followed by coffee, dainties and fellowship at the Aspen Lodge, 200 1st Street S.E. Dauphin, Manitoba.

Memories and condolences may be shared at the Pathways Funeral Home website. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Dauphin Humane Society.
