With heavy hearts we announce the passing of our father Stanley Thomas Langlois. He died on June 17, 2024, after a lengthy battle with cancer.
He was predeceased by his parents Louie and Frances (Flett), his brothers Bill and Nelson Langlois, his sister Lillian and her husband Tom Poynting and his Grandson Coel Langlois-Genaille.
Stanley was born to Louie and Frances Langlois on September 17,1946 in Winnipegosis, Manitoba. He spent his whole life here. His fondest memories of childhood were the times spent in camp with his parents on Channel Island and Red Deer Point. There, he became a skilled fisherman, hunter and trapper. Stan enlisted in the army with the Princess Patricia Infantry at the age of 17. When he was discharged, he spent several years working in the mines in Thompson. He met the love of his life Margaret (Bass) at 22, settling back home in Winnipegosis where they raised their family. He swept her off her feet with his charm, good looks, his motorcycle and the black convertible Parisienne with the red leather interior.
Stan loved animals and he passed this on to his children. He had a natural aptitude for understanding animals and was called on by many fellow ranchers to lend a hand in calving season or when a horse went down. Stan was a gardener and an avid reader, likely reading every National Geographic magazine and Louie Lamore novel that was every written. He had a passion for boxing and curled in the men’s league for many years, often, probably while Margaret was working nights, would tote one of the kids along with him to sit and watch. Stan was well known for his wit, his sense of humour and his ability to tell a good story. This served him well as, for many years, he worked as a hunting guide, hosting and making fast friends to many American hunters.
Stan worked several jobs that he enjoyed intensely but none as much as his work with the PFRA. Stan was a cowboy through and through and the government was actually going to pay him to do it. This is where Stan made some of the closest friends of his life. Their bonds forged through hard miles in the saddle, field lunches and undoubtedly the occasional wind down rum and coke. For his children, round up season meant the need for more hands and riders and going to work with Dad. Memories now that will be cherished forever. Stan worked with the PFRA until he was forced to retire after a crippling accident. This accident left him unable to ride and was likely his greatest enduring heartache.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife Margaret, children Darryl (Christine), Shelley, Jo-Anne, Cody (Nicole) grandchildren Lane, Cate, Stanley, Austin, Clarke, Reed, Claire and Wyatt and great grandchildren Carlos, Bryan and Paisley Rose, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.
One of the last messages he conveyed was an undying pride for his children. Stanley loved his children dearly and cherished visits from his grandbabies. Christmases were especially meaningful to him where he wanted everyone home, and would wait until one of the kids got home from afar to cut the biggest tree he could fit into the living room.
It is memories like this and many more, that we will all hold close to our hearts as we remember this remarkable man.
A Funeral Service will be held for Stanley on Tuesday, June 25, 2024, at 1:00 P.M. from the Corpus Christi Roman Catholic Church in Winnipegosis, Manitoba, with Father Michel Nault and Reverend Pat Langlois officiating.
Interment will follow in the Corpus Christi Parish Cemetery.
