Thor Porter

It is with great sadness and heavy hearts we announce the passing of our son, brother, uncle, Dad, Papa and friend THORSTEIN (THOR) HAROLD GORDON PORTER on May 5, 2023.  After a brief illness and with family by his side.

Thor was born October 23, 1976, in Thompson MB. to proud parents Thorstein (Stoni) and Judy Porter, a baby brother for sister Jeannette.  Thor resided and went to school in Thompson, where he graduated in 1995.  Thor enjoyed all sports such as playing hockey with The Bandits and Slopitch with The Youngsters. 

He began his working career with KNC Electric in Thompson for about a year. 

He then moved down to Winnipeg MB and enrolled in Professional Driving Training.  After completing his course, he drove building materials around Winnipeg MB, for McDermid.  Thor met and began his relationship with Michelle.  They raised their 2 daughters, Kylie and Mackenzie.  The family enjoyed summer camping trips and trips to Winnipeg Speedway.  Winter pastimes included skating, hockey, snowboarding and skiing.  Thor loved teaching his girls all kinds of sports like hockey, soccer and softball.  Thor gave a great deal of his time volunteering to help in any way be it assisting the coaches or whatever was needed.  Thor then began employment with Vestas as a blade technician.  This took him to many destinations in Canada, also locations such as Denmark, Puerto Rico, and numerous states in the USA.  During his tenure with Vestas, he and his family enjoyed warm climate winter vacations from the cold MB winters.  Exotic places like Walt Disney World in Florida, Disney cruises, Hawaii, Cuba, and a few Mexico destinations too.  Thor wanted to be at home more, so he left Vestas and resumed his truck driving in Manitoba.  He worked with Paul’s Hauling and Penner Oil.

Thor is survived by his parents Thorstein (Stoni) and Judy; sister Jeannette (Ed) nephew Lakkoda; daughter Kylie (Evan) and granddaughters Mazlynn and Skylar; daughter Mackenzie; special friend Michelle; numerous Aunts, Uncles, and Cousins.

All family and friends may be considered as honourary pall bearers.

Should friends so desire, donations in Thor’s memory may be made to a charity of one’s choice.

A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, May 26, 2023 at 11:00 A.M. from the Corpus Christi Roman Catholic Church in Winnipegosis, Manitoba with Father Michel Nault officiating.  Rosary will begin at 10:30 A.M.
