Valerie Harmatski (Hupalo)

It is with great heartbreak that we announce the passing of Valerie Harmatski. Val passed away suddenly but peacefully after her short "C' journey as she called it, on Saturday, October 25, 2025 at Dauphin Hospital surrounded by her family. Through this time Val showed admirable bravery, and was thoughtfully cared for by her dedicated family.

Valerie (also lovingly known as 'Tom) will be lovingly remembered by her partner Ivan Hupalo, her children Jennifer Hupalo, Jessica Hupalo and Jaelyn Hupalo, and fur-babies the late Alice and Luna. She was born to the late John Harmatski (of Wroxton, Saskatchewan) and Helen Harmatski (nee Pylypiw of Pulp River, Manitoba) in Dauphin, Manitoba. Her siblings include the late Lawrence, the late Eileen (Melvin), Ernie, Ervin (Cindy), Lynn, Shelley and Gary.

A truly radiant soul, Val spent her summers in her flourishing garden or at Clear Lake; and her winters baking dainties and keeping warm by backyard bonfires. A devouted partner, mother of 3, daughter and sister, she always put others before herself. A country music loving super-mom to her children and youth in the community, she was always a reliable shoulder to lean on. Her unrelenting energy was there for every Ukrainian dance recital, sports practice and late night homework session. And to her last day, she could always be counted on in a time of need, and her reassuring phone calls were always what you needed to hear. 

She supported those around her with a commitment to unparalleled and unconditional love and encouragement. With morals instilled by her late father, Val kept his unrelenting spirit of humility alive, and would always lend a listening ear to anyone she encountered. She always told her children, it doesn’t matter where someone comes from, what matters is that we all deserve the same care and kindness. 

Always the last person to leave a party, Val’s time with loved ones was never long enough. Even though she left much too early this time, she awaits in the spirit world with a soft-hearted smile, until we see her again. We will forever be blessed by your guidance and will endure a lifetime of missing you, for the honour of knowing you. 

In accordance with Val's wishes, cremation will take place and a private celebration of life will be held. The family deeply appreciates the support of the community during this time.
