Darcy Macmillan

It is with deep sadness that the family of Darcy Macmillan announce his passing on Tuesday, April 2, 2024, at the age of 59 years.

Darcy was born in Brandon, Manitoba, on June 14, 1964, to parents Edward, and Ella Macmillan (Wood).

Darcy grew up in the East End of Brandon, with his two older siblings Dale, and Marion.  Darcy attended Riverview Elementary School, Earl Haig, and Crocus Plains High School.

After school Darcy went on to work at Curly MacKay’s sporting goods, Regent Custom Cresting, as well as becoming a taxidermist for several years.  In 1987 Darcy’s first son Ryan was born, followed by Derek in 1991, and Luke in 1993.  Darcy loved his boys, and they fondly remember him attending their sporting events, playing catch, pop-fly and fielding ground balls in the yard, early mornings going hunting, as well as many hours spent watching Dad’s favourite sports teams.

Growing up Darcy was known to be a very busy, and active child, he was a friend to all who knew him and had a love, and passion for sports, especially Baseball, Hockey, and Curling.  Darcy was a very talented baseball player, and curler, playing AAA baseball with the Brandon Cloverleafs, his passion for baseball continued through his life, attending his three sons’ games, and coaching their teams.  He was a life-long fan of the Toronto Blue Jays, Winnipeg Jets, and the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.  He also enjoyed watching WWE wrestling, and loved western movies, often quoting his favourite wrestling and western characters.

In 2005 Darcy met the love of his life Debbie Banman, and they would marry in 2006.  After spending a few years together in Brandon, Darcy and Debbie moved to La Ronge, Saskatchewan in 2010, where they have spent the last 14 years.  After moving to La Ronge Darcy worked driving the school bus, providing lawn care, and most recently with the Town of La Ronge Parks and Recreation.  They made many new friends together in La Ronge, and enjoyed spending time outdoors, walking with their dogs, fishing, bonfires, gardening in the back yard, BBQs with friends, and especially taking their trips to the Dominican, and Cuba. 

Darcy’s true passion was always hunting, beginning at an early age with his father Ed.  Darcy was a very skilled and enthusiastic hunter, spending every fall driving countless miles with his dogs, and his children in their earlier years, spotting ducks and geese and finding the right fields to set up his decoys, and wait for the flocks to come in.  Darcy made many close friends, and connections over the years that he spent hunting.  His passion for hunting will live on through his son Derek, who would meet up with Dad in the fall for the hunt.  He will miss his duck and goose hunting dog Sage and will now be hunting grouse with his dog Lacey.

Even though Darcy lived so far away for many years, he stayed close to his family and would visit as often as he could and was always a support in helping look after his mother Ella in recent years.  Darcy is and was always a Mama’s boy.

Darcy was predeceased by his father Edward in 1997.

Darcy leaves to mourn his passing and will be lovingly remembered by his mother Ella Macmillan, his wife Debbie, his sons; Ryan Macmillan (Kathleen), Derek Macmillan (Kathryn), and Luke  Macmillan (Cherie), step-children Jaclyn and Andrea, his grandchildren Ella, Jeulia, Tyson, Logan, Dominick, Everly, and Adelaide, his brother Dale Macmillan (Dawn), his sister Marion Marr, his nieces Melissa Rushton (Wes), Mandi DuPaul (Phil), Taylor Shurb – Larocque (Tyler), grand niece Liliana, and his nephew Tosh Marr (Kyla).

A celebration of Darcy’s life will be held in the fall of 2024, when his ashes are spread during the first hunt of the season.
