Grace Hancharyk Obituary

It is with great sorrow and much love, that we mourn the sudden and unexpected passing of Grace on April 13, 2024, at the age of 66 years.

Grace will be lovingly remembered and missed by her husband Keith, sons Brad, Brent (Laura) and Bryce, her mother Iris Bodnarchuk, her sisters Vi (Ken Hack), Della Maude, Fidelia (Ron Gayleard), a special Aunt Florence Bodnarchuk, numerous nieces and nephews, sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, cousins, friends and co-workers.  She was predeceased by her father Bill Bodnarchuk on January 15, 2024, and sadly her sister Della’s partner Marty Gisti joined Grace in heaven only 24 hours after Grace’s passing.

Grace was born in Canora, SK on November 11, 1957.  She spent the first year of her life in Mikado, SK then lived in Arran, SK until she completed grade six.  The following six years were in Durban, MB this was where Grace had her first job (besides babysitting) as a switchboard telephone operator, and she found that to be a very interesting job.  She graduated high school in Swan River, MB and then lived in Pine River, MB for a time.  After graduation she entered the nursing program at the Keewatin Community College in The Pas, MB where she achieved the most outstanding student award of her class in 1979.  After marrying Keith in 1980 they remained in the Dauphin area where they raised their three sons.  Grace worked her entire nursing career in the Dauphin Hospital and the Correction Centre.

Never one to slow down and take it easy she looked for things to do even after retirement.  She took on various part-time jobs, one of these was babysitting.  Grace thoroughly enjoyed the little ones, never having the opportunity to become a grandmother herself.  She raised her three sons with much love and pride and would do anything for them.  They were her top priority.  Grace enjoyed quiet time at their cabin in the summer.  She also loved travelling to many places in the world.  Grace had many lifelong friends who will miss her great sense of humour and her cheerful company.  She dearly cherished her friends many of whom she’d had since nursing school and during her career.

Grace had an easy beautiful smile that brightened up your day and showed her dimples.  She had a heart of gold, was a great listener, a kind lady, an amazing compassionate nurse who shared her gift and skills.

Grace will be missed.  May this special angel fly high now.

A Funeral Service will be held for Grace on Friday, April 26, 2024, at 11:00 A.M. from the Dauphin First United Church with Reverend Ilene Dowd officiating.  Interment will follow in the Garland Union Cemetery.
